Museums and Natural History - the modern perspective

It was great to hear that, despite cutbacks, Yorkshire museums are dedicated to maintaining their natural history collections and making them more accessible to inspire new generations of naturalists.  Leeds Discovery Centre's display of bird specimens by beak type - crackers, crunchers, dabblers, straws - is a great example of a fun approach to natural history to get school groups thinking about evolution and ecology.

The Yorkshire Naturalists’ Union conference was held on Saturday the 8th April 2017 at the University of York on the theme of Yorkshire’s natural history societies – for naturalists, for nature, for the future.  It was attended by 95 members and friends and was a thoroughly enjoyable event!  Our sincere thanks to the speakers, chairs, exhibitors and all the delegates who participated so enthusiastically.

The 2019 YNU conference was organised in partnership with the North and East Yorkshire Ecological Data Centre (NEYEDC).  Attended by 94 delegates, the conference took place on Saturday 6th April 2019 in the Ron Cooke Hub, University of York, on the topic of new tools and technology for biological recording and conservation.
